Created by Gabriele Cirulli, 2048 took the world by storm with its deceptively simple mathematics. Sliding numbered tiles across a 4x4 board merges identical numbers together: 2 merges into 4, 4 into 8, 8 into 16, up toward the monumental 2048 tile.
Every slide spawns a new tile, challenging you to plan your board hierarchy carefully to prevent gridlock.
How to Play 2048
- Slide tiles across the grid in four directions.
- When two tiles with the same number collide, they combine into their sum.
- Build a single tile up to 2048 before the board fills up with no legal moves left.
Controls
- Arrow keys or WASD: Slide all tiles across the grid.
- Touch swipe on mobile screens.
Tips and Tricks
- Keep your highest-value tile anchored in one specific corner (bottom-right is classic).
- Never swipe in the opposite direction of your chosen corner unless absolutely forced to.
- Build descending snake-like chains along the edge leading into your highest tile.
